I was wondering today how we’d gotten to the point where we need software to manage our interpersonal relationships, then I remembered. Oh yeah. WE DON’T.

I felt the same way earlier today, unfollowed a few more robotic self-centered people who never communicate or relate like humans, and seriously wondered about the point of it all. But y’know I’ve learned that these things are like the weather. A stormy week of everyone ignoring each other like robots never feels like it’ll end, and soon the sun is out and a few people are relating to each other again, and it was worth the patience. With the way people lock themselves up in their own petty problems today, to be social without software to help it happen might well drive a person to knocking on doors with a crazed staring expression, asking desperately for a cup of humanity. Disappointment follows whenever humans are involved. At least online, it’s easy to share yourself openly while you wait for things to change, and somehow the disappointment is lessened by the buffer of distance. There, there’s at least always the potential of reaching someone worthwhile in a meaningful way. After a while, the potential is what comes to mean so much; after the ferocious reality of immediate “real life” disappointment becomes just too much to bare.
I can support that statement in my own twisted way – I limit my interpersonal relationships. No, seriously. If I can’t do it decently in person, I shouldn’t have to worry about meshing all my software to comply with numerous devices to do it that way. If it weren’t for needing books and music, I’d be a hermitess – pah.
